Emergency Services

Michelle Townsley, DVM

“I cannot remember a time when I didn't want to be a veterinarian” says Dr. Townsley.  She grew up on a farm, and now lives in that same home-having always been surrounded by animals; cows, pigs, horses, cats and dogs, & over the years --rats, a pony, peacocks, turkeys, chickens, ferrets, a gerbil, and even a ball python. Dr. Townsley graduated from Kansas State University in 1994, and has always been thankful to be in this profession to help improve pet's quality of life and the bond between people & their pets. She practiced in Dodge City, KS for 2.5 years then returned home to Wichita, where all her siblings live, to perform Relief Work and meet lots of wonderful Wichita Area Veterinary Teams. She accepted a position at the Kansas Humane Society as Clinic Director in 1999 and dedicated a majority of her career caring for homeless pets, improving the quality of life in the shelter (medical production management) and creating the most efficient surgical teams around. During her 18 years at KHS, she performed over 90,000 spay & neuter surgeries! One of her most treasured work accomplishments is having helped design the amazing KHS Clinic. She began working at VESHW in April 2016 PRN, helping to cover on weekends when needed and became full-time April 2018. She says “I love this team and the work we do here! We are able to make a difference every day by practicing the best medicine possible.” Dr. Townsley thoroughly enjoys surgery, pediatrics, and working as a team. A life-long learner, she applies fresh knowledge, every day. She loves life, her ‘wonderful sweetheart’, children, grandchildren & siblings, food, art, and the outdoors.
